Annual Christmas Day Dinner

For the past 15 years, Mary has been organizing and hosting an annual Christmas Day Dinner which is held at East Plains United Church in (Aldershot) Burlington.  It started with 45 volunteers and 35 guests and has now grown to 100 volunteers on December 24th to set up and wrap presents and approximately 100 volunteers on Christmas Day to serve dinner to 350 - 500 guests and then clean up and take down.  It is an enormous endeavour and one which gives Mary such joy.  She says this is her "ticket to Heaven"!  Every guest is served a full turkey dinner (or veggie option), enjoys carolling by the volunteers, great companionship and a visit and present from Santa!  Is it a magical day and couldn't take place without the amazing volunteers!

Service Dogs and Mary

For the past 20 years, Mary Dilly has been raising and fostering service dogs in training.  She is presently working with her 12th puppy, Georgie.  After 20 years of being covered in dog hair, Mary was going to take a break from fostering another one.  That is, until her friend, Clinton Howell, offered to support the next dog with a financial donation to Lions Foundation of Canada and, so, what could Mary say?  Of course, she said she would do it again.  Georgie is a standard black poodle.  Meet some of Mary's service dogs in training below!

Working with The Fresh Start Project

In early 2020, Mary had the pleasure of meeting Nancy Milton from The Fresh Start Project. (See their facebook page: The Fresh Start Project)  Nancy and her friend, Sue, started this organization to help women leaving shelters and moving into apartments/homes or refugees with much needed supplies and furniture.  Recently, we were delighted to coordinate donations of furniture: couch, dressers, beds, books/toys/puzzles, lamps, dining room table and chairs and other such items. With the help of Kevin Head and Clinton Howell, we were able to collect the items and deliver them to the loveliest family I have ever met!  Rhona (mother of four adorable kids) put us all to shame when she hauled a heavy mattress on her shoulders!  The family was so grateful and helpful with the delivery!  Also thanks to Clinton Howell ( for the introduction to Nancy and this great organization.  Thank you to the Burlington community who donated all the items!  Check out the photos of our delivery to this family.
